Bratislava 2012

Since Bratislava is only an hour away from Vienna on the train, it made a low cost day-trip to another country where I could add to my McDonald's restaurant list. Evan was sick from a cold, so he elected to stay in the hotel in Vienna and rest.

Bratislava seems to be a poor relative of Vienna. Many of the places seemed in need of repair, there were no crowds, and not everyone spoke English. It was worth a quick visit, but not a second visit. The nicest building and gardens were around the presidential palace.

This church was one of the ones highlighted on the walking tour, but it was not remarkable.

When Napoleon came through town, he attacked this building. The cannon ball is still embedded in the side, near the second floor window.

There are three famous bronze sculptures around the small downtown area, including this one.

Of course, Carol fond the Mozart plaque.

We had about 45 minutes before the train left, and the Bratislava castle was near the station. Michael ran up to it, and it turned out to be only a five minute walk.

More evidence that the economy is slow in Slovakia- the station was practically empty at rush hour.

We were the only people in this train car.
