There
were several tours to some glowworm caves in New Zealand, but this one seemed
the easiest to get to. Unfortunately, photography inside the caves was not
allowed, so the only photo I got was the tour group assembling for the short
walk into the cave. Once the lights were turned off, you could see the tiny
spots of light spread across the upper cave ceiling, only 20 to 30 feet away. I
expected that the spots would be like fireflies, but they were much smaller,
probably only 1 mm diameter, and pretty bright blue. In the first cave, they
were spread out just like the Milky Way in the night sky. It was hard to hold
your head so far backward for any long time, but the sight was pretty
impressive. We were in the cave for about 30 minutes.
