Susan Arthurs
I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1973. I got a teaching job in Torrington, Wyoming. I continued to teach there for 21 1/2 years. I spent most of the time working with fourth graders.

While teaching in Wyoming, I went on a blind date and met my future husband, Andy. He proposed on the second date and I accepted. I had been praying to meet a tall, LC-MS man and the Lord answered my prayer. Andy and I have one son. Tim lives in Brooklyn and works for Edison Schools in their corporate office located in NYC. He is a computer nerd.

Andy and I both work for Oglala Lakota College located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. (It takes me 1 1/2 hrs. to get to the office each day!) Andy is the department chair for information technology. Ask me how many people are in his department. There are two. I am the k-12 liaison. I do recruiting and help train teachers to use technology in their classrooms. My main focus is to encourage Native Americans to pursue careers in science, math, technology and engineering.

Andy and I have lived in Black Hawk, South Dakota for 8 years. We love the Black Hills. Andy is a fly fisherman and knows some great spots. I don’t fish, but enjoy hiking and identifying plant life. We both know what poison ivy looks like!

Andy completed his master’s degree in educational technology on May 10. I am very proud of him. He is hoping to start working on his doctorate next. He loves studying!

And if that isn’t enough to keep us busy, we are always doing some remodeling around the house. Right now Andy is installing some kitchen cupboards. Next on the agenda is to work on the back deck. We are never lacking for projects.
In May, we spent a week in New York City with our son. In the picture, Andy and I are at Coney Island enjoying the sunny day.
